I did a terrain walk on the campus a few years ago. Saw the locations where the four students died, where the ROTC building was burned down, where the students were protesting, etc. Enlightening visit, to say the least.

My first recruiting tour was in Ravenna, OH which is right next door. That recruiting station has since moved into Kent. KSU was in my AOR and a friend of mine was an associate professor working on his PhD, so I was on campus pretty regularly except on May 4th. I was a kid when the shooting occurred but remember it pretty well, my mothers best friend was injured that day. I remember climbing around the inside of a national guard tank at a county fair a few yrs later and getting a few "The Guard Belongs" stickers. I didn't understand the entirety of it all until a few yrs later in high school. It was a different time I guess and there were only 3 channels on the TV, and I wasn't interested in the news paper except to use to build a small fire while fishing.
