Ralph Yarl, 17, filed a civil suit in Clay County Court seeking monetary damages from Andrew “Dan” Lester, along with Lester’s homeowners’ association. The HOA failed to take precautions about a “potentially dangerous individual,” the lawsuit says.

The man deserves to be sued...the HOA I don't know enough about to have an opinion. I understand the man's fear, my understanding is dangerous people always ring doorbells before breaking in

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel Lee Merritt, the family’s attorney, said the civil suit is to “give the family a chance to be in the driver’s seat in pursuing justice for Ralph” as the state’s criminal case against Lester unfolds.
