I first heard of this archive reading Annie Jacobson's books. One of her books is called: Surprise, Kill, Vanish" about the paramilitary arm of the CIA. In the back she lists all her sources, and her beginning research is always going through that vault. I can't imagine what Clearances you needed to read this stuff before it became available due to the FOIA.
