Good for you Earl Meyer. Sometimes it pays to keep fighting for what you believe you have coming to you Brother Dale. I'm still fighting for the Bronze Star w/v that I was originally put in for. I'm waiting now for President Trump to get back in office so I can get his name on it.

I lost my original Purple Heart Medal and certificate with orders when a 122mm rocket hit our unit supply with our duffle bags at Dong Ha during Lam Son 719. Didn't think anything of it until our Troop clerk at Ft. Hood told me there was no record of PH in my OMPF when they POM'd us. I explained the situation and was told to file a request for review--and take it off.

Fast forward to 1981: I was at Ft. Knox and my boss called me in and said he had an award to present to me.

"Huh?" I responded.

"PERSCOM sent a Purple Heart for you," he replied. "It seems they found your treatment records in the 27th Surgical Hospital in Chu Lai and cut a new order a couple of weeks ago. . . ."

MAJ Dale E. Wilson, Ph.D. - Good for you Brother Dale. It kinda sounds like my PH paperwork. I had held on to my field hospital paperwork and sure enough, my original paperwork was lost. Thank goodness for the packrat in me.

I don't understand how this even happens. This should have been awarded 73 years ago. Shrapnel to the thigh is noticeable.

But then again, there have been phonies..
