It was a powerful speech, followed by one from a 98 year old WWII vet who can deliver a more inspiring speech than Biden could ever dream of. In a little over a month, I will once again honor the 13 American Servicemen and women who made the ultimate sacrifice as we withdrew from Afghanistan, and betrayed all those who deployed there, their families, and the Afghan people. In the past I started out with a 13-mile hike, to include a ruck sack. I have since had to do away with the ruck as my back issues can no longer take it. This year I intend to swim 13 pool lengths (a little over 300m), bike 13 miles, and walk 13K (my runs are limited to 5Ks due to the back, so I won't push it).

We all know that we have the possibility of coming home on our shields during our time in service. These 13 service personnel should have never been put in that spot. Terrible planning by the State Department and being hung out to dry by the DOD is not a good reason for their sacrifice.
