There are two factors in the Maui fire and the LA fires. Fast dry winds and failure to remove highly combustable plant material. There were also problems with having adequate water to fight the fires. We can do little about hurricane force dry winds, but we can remove dead and dry vegetation and providing adequate resources to fight fires like insuring reservoirs are filled and new ones are built.

In california, when the winds get too high, they shut off the Electricity so they can't be accused of starting a fire, if one does start Brother Dave. Therefore, the water pumps can't operate. Some of the best liberal thinking in california.
