Good Red Friday afternoon, Rallypoint, and welcome to this edition of Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) for March 21, 2025.
Three cheers for the Leo Trio, three galaxies that lie roughly 30 million light years away in the constellation Leo (The Lion). In this image, the top and right-most galaxies are (respectively) Messier 65 and 66. Charles Messier discovered both on the same night in 1780. The leftmost galaxy is NGC 3628 (aka The Hamburger Galaxy), discovered in 1784 by William Herschel. This image was captured by an amateur astronomer from Qatar.
