A very informative article!
Perhaps Iran was always a paper tiger? Its leaders afraid of being involved in actual war because the populace was unhappy under Islamic rule and they couldn't take a chance of an internal uprising. So they turned to proxies willing to go to war and allow the theocratic to remain in power. Now they have no proxies protecting them and they are unable to prosecute a defense against Israel.

Remember the casualty estimates before Desert Storm? I remember being told that my squadron (at the head of the Army column of the Iraq invasion) could expect 70% casualties with an excellent rate of return on the eve of THAT war. We seem to ALWAYS overestimate the enemy's capabilities in a stand up fight.

LTC Matthew Schlosser Yes we do and that's why I don't put much faith in those types of estimates.
