Ain't it funny how Japan could build their bullet trains in an area rife with earthquakes, but California couldn't get the job done.

Back In 1964-65 I'd Been To Fukuoka, Japan, Several Times ~ Out From Osan AFB, South Korea. And I Rode Those Bullet (electric) Trains. It Starts Out Slowly Almost Unnoticed, Then Picks Up Speed To The Point When You Look Out The Window You Can't Even Focus Your Eyes On Anything. ~ Just Flashes Of God Knows What Shooting By.! ~ And THAT Was About 60 Years Ago, I Can't Imaging What They Must Have Now.~

In 1967 I rode the bullet trains in Japan Brother Chuck. "Rick" has me beat by 2 or 3 years.

Nowhere becomes somewhere eventually. Just look at Vegas in the 70s when they put in infrastructure in the desert for what today has become prime developments.

The ROI just isn't there - the closest comparison I can think of is Boston's Big Dig -- still over budget in time and money, but ultimately cheaper and faster than the Cali rail...

CORONEL, When I 1st Visited Vegas, Back In 1965, Road And Housing Construction Was Going On Everywhere. When I Visited In Later Years, The Same Was Happening. Then, When I Moved Here In 94' It Was STILL Going On. ~~ There's Been NOT One Day Which I Can Recall When The Construction Out Here Even Slowing Down.
When I Purchased My Home In 1994 ~ Out By Nellis AFB, 9 Miles From Down Town, Vegas. People Asked "You Live All The Way Out There"?, Now It's Built Up For About 20 Miles Beyond My House, They Say "HOLY SH*T, You REALLY Live Close To The Strip".

A1C Medrick "Rick" DeVaney I remember on my first Red Flag, 1976ish, we were trying to find some restaurant off the strip. We made a bad turn, but I didn't think much of it because we were still on a divided 4 lane road with traffic signals and cross roads. It took us a while to realize that all of a a sudden there were no buildings along the road and we were in the middle of the desert. We made a U-turn at the next light and headed back. Finally found the restaurant and had a great steak dinner.

Once Back In The 80's I Was Visiting My Brother Ian, When He Lived Out Here.
He Sent Me To The 7-11, About 4 Blocks Straight Up The Street To Pick Up Some Cigarettes & A 6 Pack. I Got Back To His Apt About 2 Hours Later. Same Thing ~ I Went In The Wrong Direction And Wound Up Clean The "L" And Gone Out In The Middle Of Nowhere... When I Moved Out Here, Nellis AFB Was Just Down Craig Road About 4 Miles From Where I Live, Craig Was 2 Lanes Wide & Very Little Traffic. Pretty Much USAF Changing Shifts, Craig Is Now A 4 Lane Road With So Much Traffic, It's As Though We Were Living On The Strip; And Business & Residential Construction Extends Past Craig Toward Utah, About 15 - 20 Miles Further Out. This Place Is A Zoo.
