A labor union representing U.S. government employees has called on Democrats in Congress to support a GOP-backed funding bill that would end the government shutdown.
The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), a union representing 820,000 employees, published a demand from its president, Everett Kelley, on its website on Oct. 27.

Lt Col Charlie Brown At this point I think the Democrats don't want to give in and pass a temporary bill because it will make the look weak for giving in. Their stance is at the expense of the most needed people especially those on food stamps (SNAP).

Democrats need victims to save and this creates more of them. All the ACA does is provide more money to insurance companies and does not guarantee any healthcare to actually be provided.

MSG Billy Brumfield - I do not disagree with your fix; however, I try to be apolitical when discussing healthcare. I did not even like starting with "Democrats need victims," but there is no other reality to their platform. One of my biggest pet peeves is the entire talk of affordable healthcare. Healthcare is no different; you get what you pay for. I have been an RN for 22 years, started in healthcare over 30 years ago, and am board-certified in both ICU and ER. If someone is looking for discount nursing, there is a new grad who would love to take care of people on the cheap. Some might think it is bad I expect more money but I have two teens, a wife, and an 81-year-old father that I support. I love taking care of people but that $3000 concert sax my son wants or learning to fly in our plane does not come from me providing experienced care for less.

They need to pass the budget and if there are other things to iron out or change save it for later after You take care of those that employ You, We the taxpayers. Also why is it only the Federal Government that seems to stop functioning and follow the existing laws the way the states and cities do. Even labor Unions usually have a continuation clause on their agreements until another agreement is reached and when it reverts to the date of the last contracts expiration NOT stop functioning. This is shameful such a thing as a Federal Government shutdown is even possible because they can't seem to do the job they are paid to do !
