I am proud to say I am Damn Infantry or was 50 years ago that being said I can remember MPs running road security on old route 17?coast highway Vietnam in open jeeps with nothing larger than a 30 cal and side arms knowing they would be ambushed but they ran that damn route as ordered

SGT William Howell
SGT Philip Roncari Those days are long gone. A MP squad now has more firepower than most infantry platoons. Most squads have at least 3 MK19s, 3 240s, 3 SAWs, and a couple M-2s.

SGT William Howell - if my memory is correct, we had M-60's for the jeeps, and 50 cal. for the APC's and Duce and a half's. Personnel had M-16 and M-79.

COL David Turk I stand corrected about the 30 cals they were in fact M60s and side arms were M16s and M79s but that correction does not belie the fact the MPs did a dangerous duty and I was just trying to bring that point out,and by the way in my tour 1966-67 the M16 was a piece of crap the M60 not far behind ,APCs had aluminum for armor I guess the only weapon they could depend on was the ma deuce, all that being said I guess I'm just an old disgruntled grunt ranting on sorry

SGT Philip Roncari I think you did a fine job pointing out that those of us that were MP's we're combat support and we were there to assist you do your job. That meant doing our job which was not always screwing with you because maybe you looked a little bit out of uniform. When the crap hits the fan we were the ones that rolled in and gladly joined in the fight. That's the way it worked. How are you were 20 years before me and saw shit I will never see. I salute you sergeant. Thank you for all that you did.

Nobody ever messed with me, I was an old lady soldier with 5 kids back home...and I was the only one in my platoon who could get a MK19 in the turret on my own...LOL!

I HATED Crew Drills with the MK19..... heavy unbalanced POS!!! Much respect to you handling that thing on your own. I preferred the .50. I could put it on my shoulder and move out as long as the barrel was attached.
