My wife is fluent in French, having studied it in HS and college (her major), teaching French and actually living in France for two years. We also lived in New Orleans (Slidell) for two and a half years. She could understand Cajun French but couldn’t speak it. Cajuns could understand her classic French but couldn’t speak it!
She’s also learned that the French people (as in people from France that speak French) absolutely despise the Canadian French dialect. They’d rather converse with the person in English (which is saying something!) than listen to Canadian French. She learned this from a native of Quebec. It doesn’t surprise me in the least and he wasn’t kidding!

Reminds me of a story I heard some time ago about a worker at a brewery who fell into a vat and drowned. The manager summoned the poor fellow's wife and explained to her how the accident occurred. When he finished she asked if he died right away without suffering. The manager was sorry to tell her no he didn't expire right away as he left the vat three times to visit the restroom.

In Texas I met a girl who looked like her. She was very beautiful.
