Silence is not something that we can afford. This allows people to do what the want with no opposition.

So many incidents and policies that were not just a handful of bigoted individuals, but POLICY signed off on by Congress, the War Department and high ranking officers. Two of the biggest slaps in the face were Black Soldiers initially being paid at laborer rates vice Military Pate Rates during the Civil War, and being banned from going into certain towns or establishments in WW2 ,,, when Axis Prisoners were allowed to go to those very places.
