"Beauty is as beauty does" and the A-10 does a lot of beautiful things, doesn't it?

Sometimes something ugly can be so beautiful, especially in combat. I always thought the Flying Cranes were ugly until it hauled five elephants out of an LZ. That was a beautiful site. It saved hours of hard work getting rid of them. BTW, they wete all dead from artillery strikes.

SGT (Join to see) - Having been in the company of live elephants, I can tell you that you were lucky. Elephants become very nervous very easily and when they get nervous, they get diarrhea. I can't imagine much worse than being under a live elephant suspended from a flying crane. (And, yes, the flying crane was not any beauty except by what it did)

CPT Jack Durish, These five elephants were already dead from artillery and gunship strikes. They were pretty calm and limp. Lol

I concur with you wholeheartedly SGT (Join to see). Beauty like ugliness is largely in the eye of the beholder. While the A-10 is not graceful and sleek it is a welcome sight to those on the ground that it is supporting. On the other hand the sound of its approach with guns blazing strikes terror into an enemy.

Why try to fix or use something that isn't better, when it's not broken and performing up to expectations? The A-10 is to infantry today that the rotary wings were to the infantry in Vietnam. Slow and deadly.

I loved hearing them. It meant somebody was having a WAY worse day than I was.

The A-10 was designed to support the service members on the ground doing the fighting, to which the A-10 has done and continuous to do a great job, but the idiots above that do not do any fighting with the exception for their lobbyist want to kill the A-10.
