In 2014, the ice coverage reached the highest ever recorded; 20mil sq km as per the Antarctic Climate and Ecosystems Cooperative Research Centre. The Center also states, "There has been a 1.5 per cent increase each decade since records began in 1979."

Nat'l Snow and Ice Center announced, "Arctic sea ice extent during September 2016 averaged 4.72 million square kilometers (1.82 million square miles), the fifth lowest in the satellite record. Average September extent was 1.09 million square kilometers (421,000 square miles) above the record low set in 2012, and 1.82 million square kilometers (703,000 square miles) below the 1981 to 2010 long-term average."

Facts indicate current ice coverage falls within long term variations. No need to panic. Nature is doing what it's supposed to do.
