I saw it (there’s only one) perform at an air show in Oklahoma City in the late ‘80s! On second thought, it’s far more likely I saw an Antonov An-124 Ruslan, which is the Mriya‘s older, smaller brother. Honestly, I don’t know which plane I saw!

I have no idea why the Russians do anything, Maj Robert Carson, much less build this monster! I do know that the United States has given the Russians a ton of money to rent that thing on more than one occasion.

I don’t disagree, but we still paid the Russkies a boatload of cash to haul our stuff for us!

Easy there, Maj Robert Carson! Here’s what I read in the Wikipedia article. “The type's first flight in commercial service departed from Stuttgart, Germany on 3 January 2002 (G.W. Bush), and flew to Thumrait, Oman with 216,000 prepared meals for AMERICAN military personnel based in the region. This vast number of ready meals was transported on 375 pallets and weighed 187.5 tons.”
“The An-225 has been contracted by the Canadian and U.S. governments to transport military supplies to the Middle East in support of coalition forces.”
