As Robinson writes, fear and the desire for identity and a place to belong can cause people of good will and intentions to choose and accept things that are in truth the very opposite of what they claim to believe in, even with the real thing right in front of them. But fear need not rule the day.

Fortunately, the world I live in is free of discrimination toward Christians. I have never sensed it, felt it or heard it. No one has ever tried to stop me from putting anything religious in my yard or objected to my wishing them a Happy Easter or Merry Christmas. I do, however, object strongly to Christians(?) demonstrating at a Veterans funeral or blowing up a clinic. That does not represent my Christian faith
