"Mentally Ill" has become a catchy buzz phrase. Define "mentally ill", and you'll get 10001 responses. Now how many of those responses relate to weapons safety? Depending on who's asking all, half, or none do. Define PTSD and you'll get the same amount. I think if you've been proven unable to manage your affairs on your own, by a medical professional (not a VA doc), you should have no access to weapons. Can't pay bills, don't know where you are, bathe, or who's president? No gun for you. PTSD folks. This one would be touchy being define what level of PTSD makes you unsafe? First responders would be slammed by that definition. Some troops would find their access taken away. Do that and they won't have a job either. It's a very slippery slope to be on.

I worked at the State Hospital for several years. Yes there are some that have no buisness owning a fire arm and others who are just in for anxiety or depression. They have no wants to harm themselves or others. SSG Swan said it right. Each person is different. You can't just hang a lable on them and throw them all in the same basket.

That's a hard question. I am sure there are issues that owning a gun would be a very bad thing and then others it wouldn't. I think we have enough problems in getting any info, if we try to differate the types it will get crazy I'm afraid to say

The only thing I would add, SGT (Join to see), is that IMHO unless you follow "due process" the government CAN NOT take away a citizen's rights. By Due Process, I mean to say that a COURT has adjudicated that a person is legally incompetent. Not some doctor with a chip on his shoulder about gun ownership.

As much as some people complain about personal liberty and rights, they clearly have a very hypocritical outlook on gun ownership. "What's good for the goose is good for the gander."

You want people to keep their hands off of a woman's body or out of the bedroom?

You keep your hands out of my gun cabinet.
