I agree with SSG Warren Swan. Why is the Army sinking money and time into something they already know the answer to? Maybe because they realize that all leather boots would require maintenance like shinning which of course is something the Army has never done, correct?

They are funding the Rag makers for New Uniforms and not the shoe makers with new boots... which will most likely come out of Communist China...

Problem solved in the 60's......WHY are we reinventing the wheel? Where is a Nam vet to give a good NCOPD to these smart individuals who have too much time on their hands? Let the Air Force continue to be the "Fashion Force". It's a job they're good at. We suck at it, but we're good as is.

Point made ... the second and 3rd generation of the Jungle boot addressed the short falls of the previous designs... the majority of them were made By Bata Shoe and Boot... A US Based and Owned Company... that employed Hundreds of personnel all over the US...
The Damn things were so Good I still Have a pair from the Mid 70's that i cushionedUse for my dive boors I can't ware them out... and the 4th generations (Black boots with the cushioned Top) from the 80s I use now to Hunt in now...
The really good set i Had was cut off my foot When I crushed my ankle when wrecked My Bike in 2007 and the OR doc were how well positioned The Boot kept the Ankle till they removed it...
Now some one Needs to redesign the Wheel so they can get a promotion and a Big Damn bonus... Just put a really good cushioned inner sole in it and leave it the Heck alone...
Ok You may have the Soap box back...
I have to Put on my well warn Jungle Boots on and go re-grade driveways damaged by TS Matthew
Y'all Take care out there...

Thanks for sharing PSFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL. As somebody who previous worked with Soldier Protection and Individual Equipment at PEO Soldier when I as assigned to/supported the Pentagon, I think it might make sense to use the jungle boot design with steel inserted against punji stakes as a basic design instead of starting from scratch.
Certainly it make sense to have Natick Labs contract with US boot makers instead of outsourcing overseas.
