Two points to make here...
1. Very good points are made by the individual answering the questions.
2. Just because HR stated that someone else was also ping to be having a final interview DOES NOT mean that the other interviewee is there for the same position. The company could be filling multiple positions, or even interviewing for two of the same roles.

Yes, I once left an interview with the hiring authority and went back to HR. They asked how it went and I said well. They said take the rest of the day to look for housing as you are the only one interviewed We ill call you by Friday. Monday I had not heard so I called them. They said Oh, you came in fourth.

Seems unknown to HR another interviewer who was interviewing for a much higher position was sending his rejects to my interviewer.
Sure glad I didn't find that house.
