Thank you for your thoughtful and passionate newsletter posting. I wholeheartedly affirm the importance of the U.S. Constitution as written, including the Second Amendment, which guarantees the right to keep and bear arms. This right is a fundamental part of our nation's history and identity, and it is crucial to remain vigilant in its defense.
The Importance of Voting
As you rightly pointed out, the upcoming national and state elections are critical. The party in control of Congress and state legislatures indeed calls the shots, and this has profound implications for the future of the Second Amendment. It is essential to support candidates who have a proven track record of defending our constitutional rights, even if we do not agree with them on every issue. The 80% rule is a pragmatic approach to ensure that we do not inadvertently allow candidates who oppose our values to gain power.
The Role of the Republican National Convention
The Republican National Convention, scheduled for July 15-18 in Milwaukee, will be a pivotal moment. It is expected that former President Donald Trump will be the nominee, and his potential return to the White House would require a strong congressional backing to advance a conservative, pro-rights agenda. This underscores the importance of not just the presidential race but also the congressional and state legislative races.
The Democratic National Convention
Similarly, the Democratic National Convention in August will likely highlight the party's stance on gun control. It is crucial to pay attention to their platform, as it will provide insight into the policies they intend to pursue. Historically, the Democratic Party has advocated for more restrictive gun laws, which could threaten the Second Amendment rights we hold dear.
Fighting Apathy
Your call to action against apathy is particularly resonant. The example of Virginia's low voter turnout is a stark reminder that every vote counts. The fight to preserve the Second Amendment is ongoing, and it requires active participation from all who value this right. The 80% rule is a strategic way to ensure that we elect candidates who can be allies in this fight, even if they are not perfect.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the defense of the Second Amendment and the U.S. Constitution as written is a collective responsibility. By voting strategically and staying engaged, we can ensure that our rights are protected for future generations. As Pericles wisely noted, politics will take an interest in us whether we engage or not. Therefore, it is imperative that we take an active role in shaping the political landscape to safeguard our freedoms. Thank you for your dedication to educating and mobilizing gun owners. Together, we can make a difference.

Protest voting is the only sensible reason voters support a convicted felon, sexual abuser, compulsive liar, conman Trump.

And it is also the only reason why they support Biden.
Oh, also, there are plenty of folks who may not like Trump, the man, but think he did at least a decent job in Office. And there is plenty of evidence for that opinion.
I understand - and agree! - that you feel like he is a horrible individual who should never be near the Oval Office, let alone sitting behind the desk. But from a pure policy standpoint, can you truly tell me why Biden is better than Trump?
Again, not the personal / personality stuff, but actual job performance.

SFC Casey O'Mally - The "the personal / personality stuff" is very important to me. I want a man of integrity and good moral standards in the office. Regardless the right-wing propaganda, Biden has done nothing to dispute that.
BTW, Joe Biden was not my first choice. But he was probably the only candidate that could beat Trump.
I do think Biden's platform is good. And, I think he truly cares about people.

MSG Stan Hutchison I TRULY am not trying to put words in your mouth here, which is why I am asking for clarification.
It sounds to me like you are saying that, at least for you, how good of a person a candidate is is far more important to you than how good of a job they do.
Is that an accurate summation?

SFC Casey O'Mally - Not at all. I believe a good job is a result of being a good person, in this case doing their duty to our nation. Our founder considered this to be virtue.
