Often a footnote in most history books - there were many lessons that could have been learned in this massive struggle -- and yet were not due to various reasons of the time. All would come back to haunt Europe when it found out the exact same things in 1914.... and it was tactics and weapons and defensive positions and not race and culture.... Excellent article!

The question remains after all this time -- have they ever fully recovered form the shock... or is it part of the Russian ingrained aspect that sets their historical views of the world..... and why they still hold the northern Japanese islands...
