Basic Preparedness

September is National Preparedness Month in the DoD. This site gives great details in natural disasters in your area, why you should have an emergency kit in your house and vehicle(s). I can speak for Malmstrom AFB, we have information booths three times a week on base for the month; one each at the Commissary, the Exchange, and on Thursday afternoons at the collocated club. We are also presenting information at the local elementary school just off base on 13 and 18 Sept for the 1st through 6th grade students to help make them aware and be prepared for any natural disasters. We will be heavily emphasizing wildfires (Wildfires in Montana this year have already burned 1 million+ acres of land over 34 different fires on going) . Earthquakes are also prevalent up here and Great Falls area has experienced them from Yellowstone National. The lack of any precipitation coupled with strong winds and low pressure has been of no help.

Weather pattern takes a drastic(but good) turn starting tomorrow night with rain falling and colder temps (snow expected in the mountains) through the weekend. Hopefully, this will help out up here! Air quality has been bad as you can smell the smoke from the fires and the fires in Washington as well. When you wash your vehicles and the next day all you see is ash...bad times!

Prepare now, not when a disaster has already happened!
