If they want us all to be equal, the only way to achieve that is by making sure we are all dead.

Both the left and right go easy on dictators. It just depends on which type of dictator it happens to be and their political leanings. We certainly turned a blind eye to what right wing dictators did in South and Central America during the 1970s and 1980s and from the 1950s thought early 1980s around the world as we fought communism. We have also placed left and right dictators in power when it appears to help our interests. So to say that only the left goes easy in dictators is naïve and agenda driven.
To give some perspective, Presdient Bush went to Japan for Emproor Hirohito's funeral. the Presidents of the United States, who was in the U.S. Navy and fought against the Japanese, attended the funeral of the guy who was in charge of Japan when they bombed Pearl Harbor.
Both President Obama and Carter made inroads with Castro and there was something of a personal relationship if national leaders can have such a thing. It makes sense that they would give condolences.

But you do have to agree that the Japanese turned their society around and became a very successful economy and a positive Ally.
