Dale, is there historical evidence as to why Gen. Arnold made that 180⁰ flip?

SPC (Join to see) - It's been speculated that he was disgruntled because fellow generals were trying to steal the limelight by claiming credit for things he did. It is well known that he thought he was being unfairly passed over for promotion. Lastly, while in Philadelphia he married Peggy Shippen, daughter of a highly placed rich Tory and a woman many thought was romantically involved with Major André, who many thought goaded Arnold into betraying his country.

A General should simply shrug aside jealousy and concentrate on his mission. Abandoning ship and burning the vessels under his command because he was attacked is cowardly for a military leader...a very poor example to emulate.

We didn't lose him until after he was seriously wounded at Bemis Heights near Saratoga.
