Bessie Coleman - Wikipedia

This is Google Doodle for the day, Ms. Bessie Coleman. Ms. Coleman was the first African American pilot in the early days of aviation. after hearing stories from pilots returning home form WWI, Ms. Coleman knew that was what she wanted to do. Unfortunately in that day, 1916 the country was not ready for a woman aviator, much less a black one at that. Ms. Coleman secured funding from another first, an African American banker who founded the first privately held black bank. She then studied overseas and returned home to a distinguished career. Unfortunately she was killed in a plane crash much too young.
