Your home was my home off the ship in San Diego next to 32nd street where the ship was and the full time guys were.
I was in college with this reserve GI bill already obligated enlisted with a dream to be an officer right next to I suppose ROTC students who had not yet committed but had Navy Officer Leadership daily.
I broke my mind bent twisted trying to hold onto those original recruited sparking dreams trying to figure out how to survive on the ship every month
When does a boy blank out?
A Nav Boy will sacrifice. What is leadership really? Did they ever really check up on me my benefits and income matched the requirements of the duty assignment?
I met my dad your husband right after I got that Honorable discharge. He was discovered in Virginia in the care of the VA
He was Rambo first blood

Dad your husband, that you met when you were 18 and he was 28 hid an identity of being drafted in to the Army 11 LIB 66-68 Vietnam when he was 18. The government said he was incmpenent. A walking wounded man. A brave man.
I joined the Navy to take his missing place in our family
Wounds would start to heal
It made sense
I wanted to be an officer
I blanked out before I was 22 going back and forth to the ship every month no way to transition and adjust and develop beyond confusion
The Navy replaced dad missing. A father i never knew how far they would task and how far I would be drawn out. I never considered the money. We were broke a lot us you and me when I was growing up.
I am sure now looking back on it a lot of Vietnam Veterans and their dependents did not get to the va support and were unaware of it to some extent, just like us.
Hell you would struggle to get us food and having a family was not easy for ay oung mom who never considered she woujld be doing it all herself when having a man was and is important as a provider
Hell mom I joined the navy to correct that and bring home the bacon become and officer in that reserve program that I was recruited. It seemed like the recruiter made me think I would go to college and be in the Navy. Well that was until I was also pulling double duty trying to figure out how to get in and fit in and not lose it all every month on the ship.
How does one go to college on monday morning sea sick and confused just got let off duty from midwatch foreward lookout in extreme mind numbing temperatures and no medical assistance to recover you for that monday morning.
Heck you saw it and my fiance would see it.

She was so cute. We were engaged. I was 19 and she was 18. I was to be an officer in college and we met in chriistian bible study club.
I bet you both dont remember the details but I tried to join the Army to get off the ship by 22 so I coould reset as I could not think and was totally scared now and in a panic.
The pay of a e2 reserve enlisted would buy you lunch for a week or 2 as you read hundreds of pages of operational manuals normally made for the full time guys on the shop that you had a billet to replace
The command master chief just attacked me and threatened my career that was already on the rocks out at sea because I was not so nice to him possible upon meeting him for the first time.

You were the first one to take me to psychological clinic in san diego. You saw your son alter.

I read the Constitution of the United States
It says in the Premable this
. We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
Mom I read that I had indeed at 18 swore an oath of enlistment to defend the constution. But no one ever taught me what it said and especially the preamble. The simplicity of it.
How could anyone of made a complete 8 year reserve enlistment that does not qualify as a veteran for veteran purposes for even a homeless housing voucher at the Vetearn Affairs. Denial appeal denial appeal 4 years. Why? I was in a reserve enlistment. No care of my duty assignment.
No care that it was a “Test”
The often talk of dependenets and the affects of military sercie on dependents.
Well that is why I have these thoughts.
I was granted that homeless housing voucher 4 years later. I was just getting to know dad a bit. Then well as it would happen. He is resting with god now as as well
My 4 year battle just to feel housied as a man took time from us
I have no real way to know how to make sense
YOu know I got in a lot of fights and you went to one when the fighting gym had open fight night my first one in san diego. I won. I have been hit in the head alot I did not want to remember my thoughts of a 18 year old trying to be an officer and ended up without an education and just a piece of paper that said honoralbe that I could not even go the va with in honor and dignity.
I have been on a lot of meds in the last 20 years. The Navy documented I had major depression and bi polar and on lithium as early as 1999 at a Navy Medical Hospital
That was just 1 year after being let go on the ship and my failed transfer medically to the Army
I mean I toughed it out mom
I know ladies girls have not found me that well easy to know or build a life with.
I sit here in this va housing and wonder.
You always would kiss me. You always had affection. I thought I could learn and would desire to sacrifice everything to have made a great family dad with a beautiful wife and you a great grandma
