Very interesting, Lt Col Charlie Brown! It reminded me of a rock I found in my yard that was sort of a cube in overall shape, but it was extremely heavy for its size... I don't remember what happened to it, but it was often on my mind throughout my life... My nephew owns the family homestead now, but I am sure that rock is long gone...

"NO" The Rock Is Not Long Gone, It's Around Somewhere, Just Misplaced..
But Were I You ~ Although I'm Not, ~ I Think I'd Try Tracking It Down And Consider Sending It To A Research University To Have It Investigated.

A1C Medrick "Rick" DeVaney My best find was the lower jaw of a fish embedded in sandstone. It was about 2 inches long.

Do You Recall Where It Was Found & Do You Still Have it?
It Would Be Nicely Displayed In A China Cabinet.

A1C Medrick "Rick" DeVaney I dug it outside Salem, Oregon in a cut out for the railroad track.
I gave it to a gal I was dating at the time. She and I haven't been in contact for now 28 years.

It's Always Good To Hear The History Of An Item.
Sometimes The Story's More Valuable Than The Product.
And In This Case It May Very Well Be True.
If By Chance You'd Like To Locate Her, Just Place The Name In Your Search Engine
And It May Very Well Show Up. I've Located A Few By Doing Exactly That, But Have Also
Needed To Purchase A Program To Locate Others.

A1C Medrick "Rick" DeVaney I have a outcrop of shale full of leaf fossils. I never have dug into it at any length but if I were to I would imagine there are animal fossils there too.

I'd Love To See Those, I've Always Found Them To Be Interesting.
When I Lived In Central America The House I Lived In Was But About 3/4 Miles From The Pacific Beaches, And As We'd Walk Along I'd See And Pick-Up Sea Shells, I Think To Myself "Many Real Sea Creatures Actually Lived In Theses" And Wondered How Long Ago It May Have Been.
