It was only one truck and having driven a large school bus, after climbing a hill at the peak of the hill you usually shift gears with a manual transmission and if your not careful with the clutch release and gas combo.........the damn thing will stall on you. The RR Crossing was at the peak of a hill as the garbage truck traveled. Interesting neither RR Crossing gate was damaged at the crossing. That indicates either the truck stalled on the crossing and the gates came down or the RR crossing was malfunctioning as he approached. Wrote on this website before about how these crossing gates can malfunction and low and behold we also have a resident witness stating that they had problems with the gates in the past and a signal maintainer was just out there the day before. Last but not least the train only hit the garbage truck. If someone was intending to derail the train they would have loaded the dump with heavy rock not light garbage OR used a loaded Cement Truck. No evidence of a 18 wheeler, that was the under carriage of the dump truck shown on TV.

Also, they do not provide train protection for Congressional trains. They do for trains the POTUS rides. If POTUS was on the train this never would have happened as the train would have been proceeded by two locomotives running light and behind it would have been another train to protect the train from collisions by other trains on the network. Additionally would have been helos flying overhead. Congress does not merit the same Secret Service protection because usually they do not travel in a large clump together.

I cannot imagine anyone making a plot out of this, even dailycaller.com. But I have 100% confidence it wasn't a political plot. And there isn't a coordinated group of civil servants who could have ever organized having a garbage truck to stall at the right time for the right train. I've seen it happen a lot out west. https://d26horl2n8pviu.cloudfront.net/pictures/images/000/209/178/for_gallery_v2/8cf91c42.jpg? [login to see]

Yup, as soon as the gates start to descend people panic if they are between them and do not think straight. If that every happens your supposed to exit the vehicle and run TOWARDS the direction of the train but away from the tracks at an angle so as to not get hit with debris. You would be surprised how many people at a passenger train station ignore the yellow or white line on the platform and stand as close as they can to a passing freight.........not thinking that loads sometimes shift in transit and they can get whacked...........see it all the time.

SPC Erich Guenther - I have seen it several times in AZ, and always wonder with such wide open spaces what happened. Thanks--good explanation.
