Thanks for reminding us TSgt Joe C. that on March 20, 1945 British forces led by British Gen. William J. Slim, captured the Burmese city of Mandalay from the Japanese.
General Viscount Slim used the Chindits who were a British India 'Special Force' that served in Burma and India to accomplish much against the Japanese. The Chindits were developed and commanded by British Army Brigadier Orde Charles Wingate until 24 march 1944 when British Army Brigadier "Joe" Lentaigne was given command. On 17 May, 1944 General Slim shifted operational control of Chindits to General Stilwell.
