I grew up on a farm about 20 miles from where the plane crashed killing Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper. One of my dad's cousins was at the Surf Ballroom for that last concert, she says it's funny to think they were all dead before she got home that night. She is 80, now, and lives in Joplin, about an hour down the interstate from me. I'm having lunch with her on Thursday.
