"And Indian culture is, largely, extinct — by the Indians’ own choice."
That is a bunch of horse nuggets!

Well, it IS an opinion piece. I believe he is Canadian. As a stand alone sentence, I tend to agree with you. (Here comes the but monkey) BUT, without arguing how we arrived at 2021, living most of my life surrounded by reservations, representing my companies (2) on the employer council of the Tucson Indian Center for 15+ years, I would agree with him that agave fiber sandals and jackrabbit skin breechclouts are much more rare than cowboy boots, Levi's and stetsons. They are Americans with a complex hybrid culture who've died for the stars and stripes just as those of who were pushed out of (fill in the blank) have hybrid cultures. All of us centered on the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Learning from the past is smart. Dwelling on the past, cannot lead to a good outcome.

CWO4 Terrence Clark - Thanks for the polite reply. I apologize for my less than polite post.
That post was, however, mostly about the use of the "by the Indians’ own choice" comment. Many, many Indidenious peoples are trying to hang on to as much of their old culture as possible in today's world while doing what they must to survive. I have in-laws on the Dine' reservation that are as veried in their approach to live as any other Americans, some following some of the old tridations, others not so much. As an example, I have one brother-in-law that works in the tech industry, and one that is a "singer," a healer.

CWO4 Terrence Clark the diversity rising through biracial, interracial family expansion is creating a "oneness" in culture, ethnicity, nationality and so forth that is repopulating the 1482, 1618 eras.

CWO4 Terrence Clark I get it. But I'm trying to think back on a specific Jimmy Buffet song. I come up with My Girl by the Temptations, Ain't Too Proud To Begby the Temptations, and a Wilson Pickett song.

PO3 Phyllis Maynard Those are both great songs, really like My Girl, but no. Put your sense of humor cap on: Smart Girl by Jimmy Buffet
"I'm looking for a smart woman
in a real short skirt
Smart woman who knows how to flirt
Smart woman got a mind of her own"
