LTC (Join to see) They Prefer a Tried and True Product. Also Sounds like Canada's Approach to buying Planes is the same as Mine for buying Cars. I get Mine at Half Price with Salvage Titles.

We may need to buy some used F18s too. Upgrading them to autonomous systems, and replacing those lost in combat would be better than what we're spending to develop, build and maintain the F35. What a boondoggle!

Sheldon, we have so many in mothballs right now. The u.s. Navy in the Marine Corps. Mountain put some of them back to flight status as well as upgrading them like you said

The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) has been a boondoggle to US taxpayers. Billions and billions for an aircraft that has yet to see combat for a US Mission. JSF- should never be done again. You should never design a multi-role aircraft, because the aircraft will do a whole bunch of things poorly.
Retrofit the A-10s to reformat them for new service life, to take on the close air support mission well into the next couple decades.
Instead of the F-35, we should have gone with the modified F-15 Silent Eagle, at a cost of $100million an aircraft: The F-15, airframe has been modified to be stealth-like with all it's armaments inside the fuselage. See the F-15 Silent Eagle:

yes, I posted a similar story where Singapore and Saturday Arabia have purchased a spider and I'm sure that it would beat F-35 in a daylight dog fight..

The F-15 is an excellent aircraft. I am sorry the Air Force didn't try and upgrade this bird, ala the Silent Eagle- instead of running after the latest in technology, that's not yet ready for battle. We could afford to by 10-12, F-15 Silent Eagles for the cost of 1 F-35.
It's likely we'll face thousands of aircraft by China, or other emerging country, where their numbers would be too much of an advantage. Unopposed control of the airspace by the US? Possibly, not in the future.
F-35 should have remained a prototype, until it was proven to be able to do the things it was purported to do.
