I experienced just the opposite. Back in '78, newcomers to Alaska had to go through cold-weather training. This training had to be in weather at least 25 degrees or colder. I had arrived in the summer, but still had to go through the training. I got scheduled to go in November. A warm spell hit. Re-scheduled for December. Yep, another warm spell. Again in January, again postponed. Finally in February it looked like it would be cold enough so out we went. First night was fine. A crisp minus 10 degrees. Next night, plus 10 degrees. 3rd night was predicted to be plus 30 degrees. Training NCO said "good enough" and we returned to base.
