Is there a reason for burial at sea nowadays?

SGT (Join to see) - Ah, yeah, they can be if they were honorably discharged. But they probably knew that and didn't choose it, so don't feel too bad if some of them have departed already.

I was in a couple burial at sea ceremonies while I was onboard my Guided Missile Cruiser ( USS JOUETT CG-29), it was an honor for me to participate! One sailor that we buried at sea was a father of a shipmate of mine. It was surreal; the seas were heavy and choppy, but when they announced to muster the burial detail, the water turned to glass, and when we commenced to bury the remains, dolphins started jumping around the ship. It was a sign from God and Neptune that the sailor was well received! His watch was over!
