D-Day 1943: Could the Allied Invasion of Western Europe Have Happened One Year Earlier?

I'm sure that's what was in Stalin's mind when he kept pushing the other Allies to land in France. However, I believe we weren't ready in the summer of '43 and had the invasion failed then, it could have set the western Allies back for a couple of years.

If it could have ended a year earlier then, many lifes could have been successfully saved.

Interesting read. I just saw a show on how Herr Schicklegruber was entranced by the island of Guernsey and made it a fortress, at the expense of Normandy. In his mind, the island was the key to defending "Fortess Europe". The Allies bypassed it without so much as a second thought.
