Thanks TSgt Joe C. for reminding us that on June 11, 1944 the five Allied landing groups in Operation Overlord, made up of some 330,000 troops, linked up in Normandy to form a single solid front across northwestern France.
However the attack on the strategic crossroads at Carentan, France which began on June 10 and continued to June 14 before it was cleared.
Pockets of resistance ensured that the allies never had a soli line in France.
