Ah my friend COL Charles Williams it is not nice to lampoon …
I appreciate the statement by Col. Donn Yates, the commander of the 4th Fighter Wing, “These are things that the mainstream U.S. Air Force have not done in a long time.” Sleeping in tents and "cut off from running water, hot meals and indoor toilets."

""This is kind of expeditionary — getting people to learn and understand how to be in the field,” said Col. Donn Yates, the commander of the 4th Fighter Wing, which led and organized Operation Rapid Forge. “These are things that the mainstream U.S. Air Force have not done in a long time.”
Members of the 4th Fighter Wing deployed to Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany, lived and worked out of tents used for mission planning, communications, readying life-support gear and other functions.
Additionally, some personnel were trained as “multifunctional airmen” to take on multiple jobs while on the ground in Poland, Estonia and Latvia, such as driving refueling trucks, pumping JP-8 fuel into jets on the ramp and providing base security, among more specialized tasks like loading weapons or perming maintenance.
All were cut off from running water, hot meals and indoor toilets."

SFC Jack Champion - LOL--Even in VN most had access to "luxuries"(hot, meals, ice, showers(with real hot and cold running water) i envied them ,but did not begrudge them. They did their job very well.
My first real contact with Airmen,i was invited to their quarters for a cold beer and to watch a game on TV. Needless to say i was astounded(this was in Da Nang). They may have had better living conditions, but getting mortars, rockets and sapper attacks was no picnic.

SFC Jack Champion - Wasn't in Da Nang long enough on my arrival to even realize there was a Marine barracks. The quarters i visited with the Airmen were only 2-man rooms at ground level, still a far cry from the shelter-half i was accustomed to. LOL

SFC Jack Champion - My first day in-country was spent burning crap,i had never heard of burning it and volunteered. I thought it was a joke and a "skate" task.LOL
Spent my first night on a cot with a poncho liner against a flash wall, moved to Dia Loc Pass the next day.
