"DeWalt has recalled about 8,500 electric chainsaws because they can fail to stop running when the switch is in the “off” position, posing a risk of injury. There are no known incidents or injury reports, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall notice."

I have a chain saw but don't really like using it. They are so dangerous when not taking all precautions. I am often on a ladder and suspect neighbors think I am working in slow motion

Have you considered one of these? Mine extends to 12'. Realistically that means you can safely trim branches as high as about 12' high and up to bout 5"-6" in diameter. Don't use on a ladder though. They can pull enough when first engaging the limb to make the ladder unstable.
