"If I Can Dream" was the closing song in the Elvis: '68 Comeback Special
which aired on NBC TV December 3, 1968. Elvis' manager Col. Tom Parker
wanted the show to be a Christmas special but that idea was changed by
two new producers that Elvis hired for the show. During the production of
the show in June of 1968 Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy was
assassinated in Los Angeles, California after making a speech to supporters.
"If I Can Dream", a song with strong lyrics which matched the mood of the
nation at that time in 1968.
