Federal Court Rules It's Legal Not to Hire Black Woman Applicant Because of Her Locs

I think the the part that would make this complete is the actual verbiage the company uses in "professional appearance". If she could prove it isn't "equal", I'd appeal the decision. But to say they get "messy" means what? And if she had braids then what? How about a natural OJ Simpson fro? Or just dye your hair blonde. The regulation makes all the difference and we don't have it.

Probably legally it was a decision based on precedent and in that sense "sound". It would be tough for courts to adjudicate what is and is not "professional appearance" as that's subjective. Having said that, it's pretty clear that traditional "professional appearance" is based off of things that were made by and for white people because they were the ones holding and managing the professional jobs.

I suspect this is one of those things that needs to be changed in the court of public opinion. That is to say they are unlikely to change their policy unless the community at large and their customers pressure them to change it.
