The American Legion Auxiliary (ALA), developed the same year as The Legion, is a club for spouses of male veterans, as well as daughters of veterans.
And this:
Likewise, The Sons of the American Legion (SAL) is an organization that offers membership to sons of veterans.
But has nothing for the spouses of female veterans.
What an archaic rule to exclude them, but allow sons, daughters and wife but not the male spouse.
And this:

How about a men's auxiliary? There is no reason a husband should be eligible if they didn't serve. Create a new group or change the name of the ladies auxiliary to another name that is more inclusive. The American Legion is a veterans' organization and was organized as such. If you open it to husband's you should open it to wives. It is no longer the same organization if you do that and violates our charter
