Reality unfolds into a field of potential possibilities. It seems unlikely that it is completely random, and it seems equally unlikely that everything unfolds according to some master plan. Given the pain and suffering we know about, it seems unlikely that any being we could call good, could also be omnipotent and omnipresent and allow all that pain and suffering.

A more reasonable understanding would be that if there are Gods or God, they would be a part of the natural world and only have a limited ability to influence how reality unfolds.

As a former atheist, I evenually changed my beliefs. Atheists don't understand that their aversion to (supernatural) "religion" doesn't really hurt the Cross of Christ at all. "Supernatural" is a catch word based on arbitrary definitions acceptable only to themselves. Who knows - perhaps the "dark matter in the universe" that no one can understand - except in basic theory - makes up the supernatural, spiritual world...... other dimensions -even heaven. True "Biblical Christianity" is not a "religion" - but a "relationship" - a way of life. The Bible is a written historical "recording" of God's perspective, His Word - who He is, how things are, and what will be. It is Man who first created "religion", in the Garden of Eden, when they "covered themselves with fig leaves" - an attempt to "cover their sin" and make themselves acceptable to each other and to God (Gen 3:7). Prior to their sin, there was no "religion" - it was "Relationship". A relationship with Biblical Christ is what is important. Man-made "Religion" muddies the water and leads people astray. "Blind leading the blind" (Mt 15:14)

That is what ALL man-made "religion" attempts to do....... There are even man-made forms of "true Christianity" - which has created TONS of error and confusion over the years. Look at all the "christian belief systems" and denominations in the world today - most of those mix varying amounts of Biblical truths along with their particular version or views. The "world" lumps all these various factions into one grouping - Christianity. So do atheists, but they are incorrect. True Christians are looked at in the "bad light" of man-made religion. The varying rules and creeds of man-made "religions" muddies the water for having a pure "Relationship" with Christ.

Of course God rejected the fig leaves ("religion") and provided Adam and Eve with the skins (Gen 3:21) - which represented a "future seed (offspring) of the woman (Gen 3:15 - Christ) who would shed His (innocent) blood and provide His body (white robes) for them to cover themselves with ("putting on" Christ's righteousness and being "in Him). John 14:20 "Christ in us and we in Him".

Capt Gregory Prickett - Dr Avalos is not an archeologist. He has a Doctorate in Philosophy in Hebrew Studies and Near eastern Studies, A Masters in Theological Studies, and a Bachelor's in Anthropology. My response is so what...?

Maj John Bell - yet you would rather take the word of a film maker with no qualifications? Really?

Capt Gregory Prickett - I take the word of a film maker who spoke with practicing archaeologists, sponsored by secular institutions and included both proponents and skeptics in his documentary.

You can't slip this one by me. I actually watched the documentary and went to the university web sites and professional journals to check the bona fides of the "experts." I also looked at academic papers that dealt with the assertions, BOTH pro and con. I do that when someone advances theories I've never heard of before.

Remember when John Ostrom was a paleontology heretic for proposing that dinosaurs had more in common with ostriches and swallows than with snakes, turtles and alligators. I do. Now it is consider scientific fact. Theories evolve and change.
