Have a couple of vets in the area with one, seems to be good for both of them.

Dogs tend to be very loyal and make very good friends and their interaction with people and response to emotions has no conditions. Often the relation between a human being and a dog can be one of the closest possible and very good therapy and a positive thing for both the dog and their human companion. In the end the dog need the company and so does His human friend. Seems like a win win situation for those that need that constant support from a live friend and helper. This also allows the Veteran to focus on something besides His problems with this canine companion and comfort from them just being there and keeping the veteran company. He is not alone. They take care of each other.
