That law needs to be changed CPT (Join to see). This has been going on far too long, people coming here specifically to have their babies get American citizenship I head in California there are high priced baby birthing hotels where the mother spends tens of thousands of dollars. Its not right.

This was created by a liberal interpretation of an amendment to take care of an oversight when slavery was abolished. When written, this type of activity could not have been imagined.

I have no problem with anchor babies. I do have a problem that they interfere with the legal deportation of the parents who are maintaining and unlawful presence in the United States. If family separation is sufficient grounds to halt deportation, why is it insufficient to halt incarceration of parents who are US citizens and sentenced to imprisonment for criminal convictions.
The parents have a choice:
_accept deportation, and take your American citizen child with you to live as a pediatric expat who may return to the United States unaccompanied when they meet the age of majority, or
_accept deportation and turn your child over to the appropriate state foster care agency or legally appointed guardian to be raised in the United States.
What are the choices of parents who are United States Citizens and incarcerated:
_accept incarceration and appropriate state foster care
_accept incarceration and pass off the child to a legally appointed guardian
Yes, I am an unrepentant, cold-hearted bastard.

My issue is that the right becomes exponential. The child applies for residency for his/her parents. The parents apply for residency for all of their other children and parents and the process repeats itself over and over. Keeping in mind that some of these culture the number of wives is also exponential. It becomes a status symbol and marriage bargaining tool to gain status with in their societies. Also many of these children return to be educated in systems that have disparaging attitudes toward the United States.

CPT (Join to see) - There are measures that I personally favor that once again place me squarely in the cold-hearted bastard category.
Once a person voluntarily commits improper entry or unlawful presence, they should be permanently barred from legal entry to the United States.
Additionally there are established quotas that determine how many people will granted legal residency and how many people will be granted citizenship. That should curtail the exponential growth as any applications would be filled from those annual quotas.
