What the hell has happened to the Army? This didn't ring any alarm bells for any 1SG, CSM, or CO'S at any level? Holy crap.

It's An Entirely Different Military Than It Was When Many Of Us Served,
And I'm Glad I Served Then And Not Now. I Didn't Realize They Have So Many Choices,
We Were Just Told What To Do And Did It, LOL- Well Kiss My Azz, It's Like The Girl Scouts.

MAJ Byron Oyler As an officer hen on active duty I ate at the chow hall once or twice a week. At GTMO, I ate t
there every meal.. I'd catch a breakfast or a lunch, and a dinner. Mainly, I did it to be seen by my folks.

When I was a SSG, I ate with my guys a couple of times a week just so I knew how the chow was. Our cooks were pretty good and I can only remember one or twobad meals from them.

Absolutely Best Meals I Ever Had, Whether In Or Out Of The Military Service, Was In Our "Restaurant" At Osan AFB, South Korea. We Had No Military Staff Working In The Kitchens. What We DID Have However, Were Hired Korean Chefs Whom Prepared Every Meal With Skills Most Of Us Have Never Known, And Above The Double Entrance Doors
Was A Large Half Moon Sign Which Stated ~~ And I SWEAR This To Be True ~~
~~~ "Recommended By Duncan Heinz" ~~~ YES, It Was Like A 4 Star Restaurant.
When I was in the mess hall at Ft. Jackson was the finest we had. The BC ate there every Friday night and they always served surf and turf.
My time at Ft. Carson (two tours there) we had good food and plenty of it.
Alarms bells were ringing for 1SGs and CSMs - I saw it at Ft. Carson between 2004-07 - demand on Posts for meals, for the movie theaters, for the bowling alleys, had all been dropping for years, well before I retired, and the heavy deployment schedule exacerbated this trend. That's why there might only be 1 DFAC open on a big base on weekends - when whole brigades or division were gone. The troop "caps" in the later stages of Iraq & Afghanistan also meant that our own Soldiers stopped cooking downrange - except at the very small or geographically isolated outposts. Many of those DFACs became contracted out and our food service Soldiers either didn't deploy at all, or, went in another capacity so that the units could justify bringing them.
