Grabbing some asteroid is not easy - NASA explains OSIRIS-REx challenges

About two years ago NASA launched a probe (OSIRIS-REx) to asteroid Bennu. The current distance of Asteroid 101955 Bennu (1999 RQ36) from Earth is currently 330,910,034 kilometers, equivalent to 2.211997 Astronomical Units... OSIRIS-REx mission will attempt to sample asteroid Bennu in a TAG (Tag-And-Go) maneuver, which has many challenges.

This video will explain exactly how we are going to land on Bennu, stir up the Rigolith (soil) collect a small sample then lift off the asteroid and return to Earth where the sample will reenter Earth's orbit, and brought down to a landing site where it will be collected, sent to the laboratory and analyzed... Sounds like a simple task, doesn't it? Not so it is fraught with issues that must be solved real time...

Glad you liked it, Gene... This is happening real time... Scientists are taking their time to make sure whichever landing site is selected will result in a positive mission accomplishment... I have another video coming up which shows in intimate detail what the surface of this asteroid looks like as taken by the cameras aboard the OSIRIS REx space probe...
