Al Jackson, Jr. (Booker T. & the M.G.'s), was shot fatally five times in the back in his own home October 1, 1975. At 12.15am – Police Sgt JS Massey, passing the Jackson home on his way from work, finds Barbara Jackson on the sidewalk, screaming and crying, her hands tied behind her back. Massey rushes into the house and finds Jackson lying on the den floor, apparently shot several times. The 39-year-old musical pulse of the “Memphis Sound” is dead.

I lived in Memphis for two years in the late seventies, SGT John " Mac " McConnell. It was a crime ridden town then, and it's very likely worse now. In 1996, I was there for a week of USAR duty and my car was stolen from an underground, lighted, secure hotel parking lot. My daughter went to UMemphis law school and her car was broken into and robbed during her last week of school in 2003. My wife is from Memphis and neither of us would live there.
If you're in Memphis and touring Beale Street, don't wander. You could easily get mugged a block off Beale Street. I don't go to that town unless I'm strapped.

I know Memphis as a young one. I remember well that time 1967 to 1971. You are right. It was not bad a kid. But started going bad 1968 When Dr martin Luther king was murdered.
