Why do people consider the following to be in the best interest of the Air Force?
"The exchange over Goodwin, an openly gay airman and current senior military adviser to the secretary of the Air Force in Washington, D.C., began after Weinstein told the Colorado Springs Independent that the service should have highlighted Goodwin's sexual orientation when announcing her new appointment."
Why does highlighting the sexual preference of an individual so important in the ability of the individual to perform their job?

We appear to be once again at the point where sexual orientation and religious affiliation are the most important criteria for selection to positions of military authority. This is where Mr. Weinsten and his MRFF would appear to want us to go. This is no different than touting that the Commandant of the USMA was selected because that individual is a Sikh.

I DO NOT want our leaders selected because of the sex, sexual orientation, or their religious practices; what I want and what the American people deserve are leaders who are competent at their job and not a criminal or psychopath. (Of course your definition of psychopath may defer from mine.)

As the saying goes, when you're used to privilege, equality can seem like oppression.

SSG Robert Webster , I am sorry it wasn't clearer. I was replying on mobile so I didn't quote and tag as well as I should have. It was meant in response to...

"'Social Justice' is a crock and all it really does is create another 'privileged class' that receive extraordinary benefits that the rest of the population do not receive causing more conflict."

Now that I have a full sized keyboard, to answer your initial question...

Why do people consider the following to be in the best interest of the Air Force? ... <portion removed for space> ... Why does highlighting the sexual preference of an individual so important in the ability of the individual to perform their job?"

...my opinion is that it's irrelevant why it's being highlighted now, as long as it wasn't a factor in getting the job...and a select few people can speak on that intelligently...most will just be speculating.

Personally, I can understand why some would want it pointed out as an indicator of progress towards justice and equality...to draw attention to the fact that a (presumably) qualified commissioned officer has achieved a level that previous policies and current social attitudes could have prevented. I also understand that some people have an issue with it being pointed out, but not why.

there were several articles about this one, over the last month
and many were pointing out Sour Grapes attitudes in the somewhat rapid promoton and advancements of the generals... and fact she was one of the DADT... (Don't Ask Don't Tell) poster children during The Clinton Administration

Obviously MRFF has too much time on it's hand to nit pick every rule that the military has. They need to get a life.

SGT David A. 'Cowboy' Groth Read the Article again Shipmate. MRFF is not going after the Military. He is going after Christian Fighter Pilot who got into a Pissing Contest with Him in the Blogosphere when He wanted to Acknowledge the Success of BGEN Kristin Goodwin as the first LGBT Commandant and Christian Fighter Pilot was more concerned that the General Lied about her LGBT Status when it was Unacceptable in the Military. I commend Mr Michael Weinstein and His MRFF.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - thank you for showing me my over sight on the article. A lot of people did keep quiet on their orientation of sexual preference back when I enlisted so that they could serve. Some decided to come forwards later to admit their ways.
