How is terrorism different than crime? Yes, the goal of terrorism is to gain unearned political power while the goal of crime is to accumulate unearned wealth. However, in both cases, they succeed when We the People succumb to fear and not only don't fight back, but also refuse to cooperate with those fighting on our behalf. They also succeed when We the People don't have the means to fight back. I'm sure that, like me, you've been pondering these things, especially during the past eight years when our government was fighting so ineffectually and terrorism was a growing menace. Hopefully, we'll do a better job now. I'd much rather ponder these things at a distance than in my own community.

Terrorism is crime. That is why the FBI is tasked to deal with terrorists in the US. However, since they operate in a quasi-military manner, terrorists are sometimes better dealt with from military perspective that civilian.
We have really failed in the last 8 years dealing with terrorism. That is clearly reflected with the amount of terrorist attacks in the US during that time period. Hopefully we have turned the corner and changed direction.
